Bertha Palmer Touring Her Sarasota County Lands

Bertha Palmer was a Chicago millionaire and visionary. Her interest in the Gulf Coast of Florida on her arrival in Sarasota in 1910 set the stage for the growth and prosperity of Sarasota County. She bought over 80,000 acres in the Sarasota area and became involved in agriculture, livestock, real estate, banking and tourism. Her social standing helped put the community of 840 people on the map, and once she put down roots, Sarasota County would never be the same!

  • Hello Elvis!
    6:30 PM-8:00 PM
    2017-06-12

416 W Green St, Englewood, FL 34223, USA

Auditions will be held at the Historic Green Street Church, 416 West Green Street in Englewood from 6:30 to 8 pm. on Monday June 12.

We are looking for young singers  & actors to play high-school students in the premier production of an original teen musical called “Hello Elvis”.
We also need adults to play teachers and a strong male singer to portray the ghost of Elvis Presley.

This will be an all-volunteer production with 7 pm. performances on October 2,3,5, 6, and 7th.
Proceeds will help move the Historic Green Street Church Museum to its new location beside the Historic Lemon Bay Cemetery.
Therefore, Community service hours will be available to students who participate.

Ron Walton is the author and composer of this upbeat musical lesson in being cool.
Ten musical numbers- all original and written in the style of Elvis – are woven into a two-act play with a positive spin.

Linda Lou Lewis is co-directing with Walton. She worked for years with the late Jean Airey on various productions at the Historic Green Street Church Museum.
“We are excited about showcasing the talent and energy of young performers in our community ,” said Lewis.
“The bonus is they’ll be helping to preserve one of Englewood’s historic places and keeping it alive as a cultural asset to the community.”
