About the Author
Jean Airey began writing when she was three when she decided to rewrite the ending of “Bambi.” She was a member of the Suncoast Writers Guild and a board member of the Lemon Bay Historical Society. A former contributing editor for STARLOG magazine, she wrote plays, created and maintained websites, did photography and played in a band. She was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff with Bell Labs. She passed away in the Spring of 2016 and we miss her dearly.

About the Author
Josephine Cortes and her two children arrived in Englewood in 1954, moving here from the Washington D.C. area. Jo had an excellent journalism background, and in 1955 was offered a job as editor of the Englewood Herald, the town’s first newspaper. In 1956 Jo decided to start her own newspaper, the Englewood News. She eventually took a job for 11 years as a reporter for a Sarasota newspaper. Throughout her career, her first love was being active in Englewood community affairs.
Jo originated Englewood’s First Pioneer Days Celebration in 1956.
