https://lemonbayhistory.com/event/author-d-l-havlin/7:00 PM-8:00 PMNovember 19, 2019Historic Green Street Church510 S Indiana Ave, Englewood, FL 34223, USAAuthor, speaker, international traveler, ship captain and retired business owner D L Havlin will be our Guest Speaker
Tuesday, November 19th at 7pm at the Historic Green Street Church.
D L will be doing a presentation on Thomas Edison:
Edison in Florida – One the world’s greatest inventors life in the Sunshine State
When Edison looked for a place to spend his winters in 1885, he chose Ft. Myers on the lower Southwest coast. His selection wasn’t based on the weather or ease of access. It was based on practical reasons…reasons tied directly to his research projects. His selection had a major impact on those projects and an impact on the future of the area. Learn how SWF became a magnet for famous industrialists, financiers, and other famous individuals. Edison’s unique personality and mind are important to understand what sparked his genius.
Havlin grew up in Florida and considers its slash pines, palms, waters, and sands a blood relative. Many of his novels are set in Florida, are steeped in Florida history, and cover topics of interest to Florida residents.
“My books are stories about life; about how great and how testing it can be. Writing at my ‘mature’ age is an advantage when discussing living; I’ve experienced it and don’t have to utilize conjecture. History is often my brick-mason for it can provide a building in which my story can live and breathe. Writing fantasy, sci-fi, or other work requiring that there be no reality fences, I cede to the young author where the lack of restricting rationale is beneficial.”
DL currently lives in southwest Florida with his wife Jeanelle, his golden retriever Sandy, and cat Oreo. He loves the outdoors (fishing is his passion), music, football, and cooking.
